Job Description


The group is actively seeking to recruit the following personnel for their Llandow, UK office:

Cost and Planning Engineer

Job Purpose

  • Provide a full planning, development, update and analysis of onshore and offshore activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure plans are tracked and reported, highlight any concerns & provide solutions
  • Be pro-active in all matters relating to Cost, Planning and Risk Analysis
  • Maintain all plans in readiness for weekly/monthly reporting
  • Ensure that all interfaces are identified, agreed and reviewed on a weekly basis
  • Ensure that all short term critical tasks are reviewed on a weekly basis
  • Gain knowledge and awareness of project and corporate contract and finance procedures
  • Initiate and promote the discipline of cost/planning with other engineering/ operations departments
  • Prepare strategic plans to ensure that the planning tools are capable of meeting business needs
  • Develop manpower projections and productivity metrics
  • Regularly review status of the plans and manpower profiles and advise the Project Management team on progress, areas of concern and key issues that need resolving
  • Evaluate the impact of project change upon the schedule
  • Monitor of project costs
  • Preparation of monthly cost reports
  • Capture of all costs and changes through Design, Procurement and Execution
  • Liaison with Project Engineers in progress meetings
  • Assisting development of Project estimates
  • Monitoring progress to the planned schedule against Budget
  • Update forecast cash flow projections
  • Establishment of appropriate cost centres as projects progress
  • Establish systems that are consistent with the requirements for effective cost control and reporting during the life of the project and suitable for future data retrieval
  • Any other task commensurate to the role

Key Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 4 years’ experience in the oil & gas industry within cost, planning & project controls
  • Experience working directly and indirectly for a major oil company
  • Ability to create/update planning estimating/control methods and procedures to reflect the latest engineering and project execution philosophies
  • Familiar with the requirements and structure of Integrated Planning & Cost Control
  • Experience in preparing and executing project control procedures
  • Knowledge of computer based planning tools, e.g. Primavera P6 including Microsoft
    suite e.g. Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Familiar with the operational aspects of offshore platforms and Drill Rigs
  • Commitment and flexible attitude towards company
  • Self motivated
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure & without supervision
  • Commercial awareness
  • Strong attention to detail and numerate

Minimum Qualifications

  • Formal Engineering Qualification
  • NVQ Level 3 Project Control

Advantageous Experience:

  • Three years in a similar position within the oil and gas industry
