Job Description

The group is actively seeking to recruit the following personnel for their Navi Mumbai office, India:

Lead Piping Engineer


  • To lead piping project, define design concepts, distribute the work scope between relevant design sections and coordinate design and engineering task and activities performed on the project
  • To lead a design work in way that ensures safe, timely, efficient and profitable delivery of high quality design and meeting projects and classification requirements
  • To establish the engineering and design schedule and manpower plan to ensure the work is completed in accordance with overall project schedule and budget
  • To ensure overall design integrity and selected technical solutions are resulting safe, operable and cost-effective manner
  • To ensure all spent manhrs are accurately recorded and reported against budgeted hours
  • To ensure all design documents are produced in accordance with company quality system requirements
  • To provide guidance, technical support and on job training to the subordinates and perform personal assessment
  • To design the piping systems products as per project requirements in compliance with all applicable and relevant legislation, Codes, standards and classification society requirements
  • Guide design team for stress analysis, support design calculations, flow analysis using latest tools like Caesar II, Aft Fathom etc
  • Good knowledge about piping standards, materials, fabrication and installation of piping system
  • To liaise with Classification Society or/and Regulations Authority to ensure the safety & integrity of design
  • To prepare formal responses and clarifications to comments from Clients, Subcontractors and Classification Societies on the drawings, calculation reports and specifications
  • To recommend and follow up all quality assurance and safety factors/requirements applicable to the design
  • To identify and prepare specifications for the piping systems and equipment related as per project scope
  • To advise Project managers on the piping aspects as per project tasks
  • To supervise as requested and advise junior staff
  • To perform inspections and site surveys as requested
  • To provide assistance to maintain Company’s ISO certification as related to engineering design
  • To execute additional tasks not listed here above but necessary to the Company depending on needs.The estimator must be capable of estimating the labour and materials required for tendered work, based on surveys and client supplied specifications for offshore, power and oil and gas industries, will ensure that they are able to reach their key objectives

Job Purpose

  • Always follow all company’s Management System procedures, Standard Instructions and Work Instructions relevant to design and drafting
  • Be able to analyze, determine and specify the piping requirements and considerations applicable to the design and engineering activities as per project tasks
  • To ensuring high quality of design and engineering deliverables
  • Be able to achieve targets and projects completion in time, to work under tight schedule
  • To participate in interdisciplinary co-ordination and design reviews
  • To demonstrate characteristics of professional and functional team player

Key skills/knowledge/experience

  • Master/ Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent recognized engineering qualification with 10+ years of experience in piping design in oil & gas, Marine, Power sectors
  • Minimum of 10 years of previous experience in the shipbuilding/ marine / offshore /oil & Gas/Power
  • Experienced and competent user of piping software like Caesar II, Cadworx, PDMS, SP3D Aft Fathom etc.
  • Expert in design code and standards for power piping, process piping as well as marine standards, Piping materials, piping specs, fabrication and installation aspect of piping etc.
  • Leadership skill, team motivators and good interpersonal skills, ability to guide team for challenging assignments
  • Able to produce 2D / 3D drawings using CAD software; with latest tools and ensure quality deliverables
  • Experienced in basic and detail engineering design, has basic interdisciplinary knowledge
  • Well versed with International Standards, Classification Society rules and regulations for Vessels, Offshore structures & Drilling Units
  • Familiar with Shipyard practices and standards, has good knowledge of welding details
  • Good analytical, planning and reporting skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
